Forerunner 15, Run With All Your Heart

Posted on: 31 May, 2014

The new watch, called the Garmin Forerunner 15, could bridge the existing divide between activity trackers (or modern day smart pedometers) and more advanced, GPS-enabled sports watches and at an affordable price. Forerunner 15 seems very keenly targeted at runners who have been intrigued by the self-quantification movement, but who ultimately stick with GPS watches for the more advanced features.

The new Forerunner 15 will track distance, pace, calories, personal records, and (optionally) heart rate when used with a compatible heart rate monitor. These are all features standard in daily activity trackers, or smart pedometer as they're sometimes called. The Forerunner 15 also includes an idle alert, telling users when they've been sitting still far too long, a signature and well-received feature.

Forerunner 15 will also have advanced functionality for runners. With GPS capabilities, runners can map their runs, but also see their current pace, with the option of selecting lap pace and average pace, too. An auto lap function automatically alerts runners with a beep and flash of the backlit screen each time they complete a mile. The watch also stores personal records of your runs and lets you customize some of the data fields.

Garmin says the Forerunner 15's battery can last up to five weeks in watch/activity tracking mode, or up to eight hours in GPS mode. The device is also water resistant up water rating of 5 ATM (50 meters), which means it resists rain and sweat and can even join you for a swim.

The Forerunner 15 will be available in the Malaysia soon in several colors and sizes. A small watchface and band will be available in black with green accents, teal with white accents, and violet with white accents. A larger size will be available in black with blue accents and red with black accents.
